Steve Kerr and His Family Ties

Steve, a professional basketball player and an excellent coach, was born in Beirut to an American educator’s family.

In 1983, he enrolled in the University of Arizona and became a basketball team member. He was playing as a point guard and was assigned a team leader. In 1988, he was selected to play for the Phoenix Suns, and later he was traded for Cleveland Cavaliers.

In 2014, he was hired as a coach for the Golden State Warriors which brought him great success and a big name in his coaching career.

Date of death: January 18, 1984 (aged 53)

Malcolm was born in Lebanon. He was working as a university professor at the Middle East and Arab department.  He was the president of the American University of Beirut. He wrote several books about countries he was teaching, namely The Arab Cold War, and Rich and Poor States.

In Beirut, he met his better half, Ann. They got married and raised four children.

But his life stopped the moment he was shot by the gunmen. The tragedy was a shock to his family and all worldwide media.

Ann was born in Southern California and spent almost fifteen years living and teaching in the Middle East.

She graduated from the American University in Beirut and Cairo University. Later, she was working as a teacher at the university. There she got married to Malcolm and raised four children. After her husband’s tragic death, she relocated to Los Angeles.

She is the author of two books about religion: Come with Me from Lebanon and Painting the Middle East.

In 2008, she got married for a second time to Kenneth Adams.

Margot was born in Arizona in the family of a novel writer and a professor. She was raised with her three siblings. She was attending Catholic high school and then Arizona University.

The future couple met on a blind date right at the university.  Steve’s friend was the one who arranged their first and crucial acquaintance. They were impressed by each other, but at that time didn’t expect their story will continue over thirty years.

The couple got married in 1990 in a private ceremony held in Ohio. They gave birth to three children and shared their passion for sports.

Matthew, Maddy and Nick

Nick was attending Torrey Pines High School and was playing basketball in all-league and all-academic rounds. He was named first-team senior for his great results.

He graduated from USD with a bachelor’s degree in business administration. Therefore, since 2012 he was playing for San Diego University: played in 20 games as a sophomore and in 13 games as a freshman. He was chosen for NABS Honours Court.

Maddy was born in San Diego and followed the steps of her family. Although she majored in media communications and rhetoric, she chose a career in sports, namely volleyball.

In 2014 she attended the US Collegiate National Team program and Women’s National Team. As a freshman, she had a record with 33 digs while playing against Oregon. She was named PAC-12 Freshman of the week. 

In her sophomore year, she won the Golden Bear award for her top GPA.

In 2015, she earned 459 digs and was ranked sixth in the PAC-12.

Matthew hasn’t been fond of sports, thus, since childhood, he was more into writing. As he recalls in the interview, in his high school years he was watching The Simpsons and South Park over and over to grasp satire nuances. This was a true passion.

Mat got a degree in screenwriting at USC. He works as the writing assistant for Ted Lasso comedy-drama that covers football theme. He is an active Instagram user, @matthew_kerr.
