Ashanti Shequoiya Douglas is the young female artist who won her very first Grammy award thanks to her first album. This eponymously titled debut album was released early 2002 with the hit single “Foolish” that is till date, Ashanti’s biggest and most “well-received” song.
Some years down the line and she had won eight Billboard awards and two American Music awards. Shequoiya was becoming so successful that some people started referring to her as “the Princess of Hip-Hop and R&B”.

Ken-Kaide Thomas Douglas (father)
Ken-Kaide is the first Douglas we would be looking into. In the first place, without him, the Douglas surname would not have been in the picture. He was a former singer so it would have been very lovely when he discovered he was going to have a singer as a daughter too. Thomas was for quite a while Ashanti’s road manager. He left singing for a more steady/lucrative job as a computer systems administrator.
Tina Douglas (mother)
Tina is another example of all supportive mothers out there. She was a dance teacher and was the one who took note of her daughter’s vocal skills. Tina named Shequoiya after the Ghananian Ashanti Empire saying that “the nation represented powerful and influential women who did not lack the courage to be themselves” and that was what she wanted her own Ashanti to become.
At the age of three, Ashanti was already singing in the church choir but it was not until twelve that Tina realized how vocally gifted her daughter was. By the time Ashanti was an adolescent; Tina was already sending out demo home-made tapes of her little child star showing off her beautiful talents since they could not afford recording these tapes at a studio. She became Shequoiya’s manager and did a great job at it.

Kenashia is younger sibling of the famous Ashanti. We think they were just a family of four truly. Shia as she is often called is also a singer but not so famous when compared to her super-celebrity sister.
One thing we know for sure is that Shia and Ashanti share a pretty close sister bond. On her graduation day from the school of marketing which was also happened to be their parents’ 35th wedding anniversary, Ashanti celebrated her sister big time. More than the close bond they share, Kenashia is already on her way out of her celebrity sister’s shadows. She has launched her own clothing brand “Dymes Only” after several years of being an intern at several clothing companies.
