You have heard of Gordon Ramsay if you are a foodie or you watch cooking TV shows.
Gordon James Ramsay was born on November 8, 1966 in Scotland. Ramsay had a humble beginning like majority of the people. He had three siblings, and at a tender age Gordon and his family kept changing location to match the dreams and non-fulfilment of their father then a chronic alcoholic and an aggressive man.
His strong 30 restaurants have so far been presented a total of 16 Michelin stars. His first owned restaurant named after him, Restaurant Gordon Ramsay in Chelsea, London, is holding 3 Michelin stars. Yes, something he has been awarded and maintained since 2001 just three years after starting up. Who would have thought, since his first professional love was football as he played for Glasgow Rangers at the age of 15, this abruptly ended after sustaining a leg injury.
As the general adage goes, every disappointment is a blessing in disguise. With little hope of being a successful footballer, Ramsay decided to enroll at North Oxfordshire Technical College, to earn a degree in hotel management.
After College in 1987, he learned under the tutelage of some of the outstanding global chefs whom he often referred to as mentors. A man becomes great by learning from the best in his field of specialty. Gordon’s awareness of this made him grab the opportunity to learn and grow better.
No wonder he turned out to be among the best chefs in the world with Forbes recognizing him as the highest paid chef so far. Now, he is a mentor to hundreds and thousands of potential Chefs all over the world.
In 1993, Ramsay started as head chef of the newly launched Aubergine in London (he bought that restaurant in 2014 and now it is called Maze Grill Park Walk).
Catey Awards honored him as the Newcomer of the Year for the Aubergine restaurant and hotel business. Within three years of being the head chef at Aubergine, he earned the restaurant two Michelin star rating. In the midst of all these achievements, Ramsay found love and soon got married to Tana, his wife and mother of his four children. Ramsay is an ambitious man and a go-getter.
Torn between working for his employer and starting up his own business, Ramsay made the huge leap of leaving his work 1997, and he started up his first restaurant, Restaurant Gordon Ramsay in Chelsea in 1998. The financial support of his father-in-law, Chris Hutcheson was a tremendous contribution to its launch. Don’t you all love a man who knows what he wants and goes for it?
I mean, how many people come up with a business idea and turn it into reality? Gordon is definitely one of a kind. Just before he launched his restaurant business in 1998, he published his first book titled Passion for Flavour.
Restaurant Gordon Ramsay became a must-visit for elite foodies, it soon earned a three-star Michelin rating in the cooking world and maintained that since 2001. Ramsay is one of the four UK chefs to maintain three stars.
It was almost sure that the chef with a reputation for quality yet a volatile temper would soon be establishing other businesses worldwide. The next few years was a test of Gordon’s persistence, but the ambitious, hardworking and quick-tempered Ramsay succeeded. Who says hard work doesn’t always pay off? He established several new restaurants with Forbes claiming he has 30 strong restaurants at the moment. Through these accomplishments, he leaves his footprints in major cities in the world. He has won so many other award so far, most attributed to his cooking businesses and TV shows.
Ramsay launched his restaurant business to the Americans in 2006 with the opening of two enterprises at The London, New York. The celebrity chef as over the years expanded his reach round the globe, establishing his brand in countries like South Africa, Australia, and Canada.
So far, he has 3 Catey Awards, the third person to receive that. His 3 hit TV shows: Hell’s Kitchen, MasterChef and MasterChef Junior are the primary source of his income.
These shows also create a platform for upcoming Chefs to learn and compete. This father-of-four has 21 books to his name including two autobiographies.
