There is more to The Wolverine than meets the eye: Inside the family life of Hugh Jackman

There is more to The Wolverine than meets the eye: Inside the family life of Hugh Jackman

The name Hugh Jackman is synonymous with Wolverine, his most famous big-clawed character. He just recently starred in Logan (2017), the latest of his Wolverine role and it would sadly be the last time Hugh plays the famous character. Jackman has generally won worldwide recognition for his awesome delivery in a huge variety of film genres and is unarguably one of the A-list multiple-award winning actors of this generation.

Date of Birth: October 12, 1968

Zodiac Sign: Libra

As a young boy, Michael (his middle name) loved going to the theatres with his mother but never considered acting as a career. He went on to major in communications and had journalism in mind. In his senior year, Jackman realized he was a few credits short and opted for drama class simply because a friend guaranteed it was going to be a walk over. On getting to this new class, he was amazed at how much work one needed to put in and by chance, he was cast in the lead. By the end of that term, Hugh was hooked on the art.

His family life is as perfect as his career is with a superhero string bond even when he is away being ‘shirtless’ on movie sets. According to him, Skype has changed his family’s life as he gets to be with them virtually even when he is really not. Though he might have a few awards and several nominations, Jackman’s favourite times are not when he is in front of the camera but with his wife and kids. Read on to know all there is to know about this family disciplinarian starting from his birth family.

Grace McNeil (mother)

Hugh Jackman family - mother Grace McNeil

When Hugh was just eight, his parents divorced and his mother left him and his siblings with their father. Grace moved to England so she could take care of her ill mother and the Jackman who was the youngest always shuttled between Australia (where his father was) and England for visits. It was one time in London he became freshly exposed to theatre.

Despite being unhappy with his mother for dampening the flicker of hope he had in her marriage, he admits he is a lot like her. She encouraged his creativity as she was herself a gregarious and energetic creative. The famous X-Men star eventually made peace with his mother and she now plays an important role in his new family. Grace comes around every now and then to help cater to the Ava and Oscar when both parents are away on career duties.

Christopher John Jackman (father)

His anger did not really surface until he was in his preteens as he had hoped they would reconcile but they eventually did not. He overtime became the more religious parent who gave his kids a deep grounding in faith and values that nurtured them through hard times.

Duration of Marriage: April 11, 1996 till present

Date of Birth: November 13, 1955

Zodiac Sign: Scorpio

Deborra-Lee is an Australian actress, producer and huge campaigner for several charity causes. The Sydney-born actors first met in 1995 on the set of the Australian TV series Correlli (1995 – present). After a few drinks one night, the handsome hunk admitted to his sexy blond co-star that he was also crushing on her like the rest of the crew was. Surprisingly, the 13-years older Shame (1988) actress returned the sentiments; they clicked right away and so began the journey as wannabe soul mates.

They were married in 1996 after the romantic actor personally designed an engagement ring for his bride-to-be with the Sanskrit inscription meaning “we dedicate our union to a greater source”. For over two decades now, both Australians have managed to keep their love ablaze even amidst emotionally turbulent times and two children.

When asked once how they have managed to keep a sizzling hot romance, the dashing actor said it is their rule never to spend more than two weeks away. This is not because Deb is afraid that he might run off with another co-star butt because being an established actress herself, she understand distance’s effects on intimacy. She stated that people get used to living apart or handling a problem by themselves and this is no good for any relationship. He also feels that one of his most important slogans in life is “Happy wife, happy life”.

Furness admitted in a 2004 interview that she suffered two miscarriages before adopting their first child. They went through it all from the loss of two pregnancies to several failed IVF’s before finally starting the adoption process. Today, both lovers don’t think of them as adopted kids but as their own biological children even though it was painful at first to learn that they could not have their own biological children. It was also a deliberate decision for Jackman and Furness to adopt children of mixed race.

He is the idealist who believes no one has the right to decide which plant is right and which is wrong.
