Eminem: The King of Hip Hop’s troubled family

Eminem: The King of Hip Hop’s troubled family

Marshall Bruce Mathers III had an unstable childhood as he moved from school to school every now and then. As a young boy, he was the target of violent bullying both in the neighborhood and in the streets around him. Mathers became a boy struggling to find his identity and it made him somewhat a recluse as a child. He found comfort in his bedroom most of the time sketching his own imaginary reality and living in relative peace.

He worked at several jobs to help his struggling mother and his love for music grew gradually when he was a teenager. He would blast the stereo and write songs while his mother is out playing bingo and that was how music gradually won his heart. He garnered more attention after developing the sadistic Slim Shady as his alter ego. Today, Eminem is regarded as one of the world’s best selling artists of all time.

Date of Birth: October 17, 1972

Zodiac Sign: Libra

Eminem is one of those artists who always include his family issues in his music. If you have been a religious fan of his songs, then you’ll know a thing or two about his family members but this write up would do justice to let you in on the basic details about his family. He had a troubled family upbringing but strives daily to be the better version of himself for his daughters. Read on to know all there is to know…

Date of Birth: June 30, 1951

Date of Death: June 2019 (age 67)

Zodiac Sign: Cancer

Marshall met Debbie when she was fifteen and they soon started dating. After their wedding, things turned sour quickly and they parted ways. He never made contact with his ‘family’ after he left though his son made several failed attempts at reconnecting. Slim Shady sent so many rejected letters to his father but as soon as fame shone on him, Papa Marshall decided it was time to announce himself to his son. The construction worker went on to write a public letter on how he always loved his son and how it was Debbie that painted a wrong impression about him.

Marshall Jr. died from heart attack in Indiana.

Eminem mother

Deborah Rae Nelson (mother)

Eminem's family - mother Deborah Rae Nelson

Date of Birth: January 6, 1955

Zodiac Sign: Capricorn

She got pregnant at the young age of seventeen then got married to Mathers. Their marriage did not last more than a year and they both parted ways. Marshall never had a good relationship with Debbie even before he was famous. She is no stranger to the world as her son tells it all from the offensive lyrics to their real life court cases; it is evident the kind of relationship they share.

Eminem was angry with his mum for a lot of reasons. He blamed her for not having a father figure in his life saying she was behind their failed relationship. Being a young mother, Debbie never had it easy and she literally never had a job so it became the responsibility of the growing Marshall to raise his half brother Nate.

After he became popular, she tried to make up with him but it was never successful until he discovered she had cancer. He apologised to her on hearing this sad news and ever since then, they have tried to maintain a cordial relationship. Since their reunion, he has tried to correct the negative image he painted of her to his kids and the world at large through his music.

Deborah was remarried twice after her relationship ended with Mathers and she had one more child Nathan.

Kane was taken away from Deborah when he clocked ten by the state and left off at a foster home.

While they were together, Marshall developed a soft spot for his little brother that had remained till date. All through the years as Eminem became more famous, Nate was never neglected and is today an aspiring rapper and personal trainer. The brothers spend a lot of time together and Samara even appeared on several of Eminem’s tours.

According to her, she found out in 2005 that she was siblings to the famous rap musician. She is the half sister he has from his father’s side and since the discovery; Sarah has been trying to make contact with the music legend. She works as a Californian waitress but there is no news as to whether he has reached out to his ‘estranged’ sister.

Michael Mathers (half-brother from father side)

Michael was also born to Mathers after he left Debbie. Like his sister Sarah, he has been trying to reconnect with Eminem. The estranged siblings once went to one of his concerts with the intention of meeting the rap star. They got backstage and claimed that Eminem saw them but made no attempt to reciprocate their effort and acknowledge their presence.
