The first change found him in 1992, when presenting the role of retired basketball player, now a coach in the movie “A League of Their Own”. For this film he had to put 30 pounds in shape, which is equal to 13,5 kilos.
The next year was unpredictable and difficult in many senses, as Tom was offered a role in “Philadelphia”, for which he should have dropped 26 pounds (11,7 kilos). The actor agreed and got the reward – the Oscar was given to him as the best recognition both from public and critics.

The preparation started long before. Tom was trying hard to lose 50 pounds for movie making, when the initial weight was 185 pounds (83,2 kilos) and the first reached point was already 145 (62,2 kilos), but he kept going and surprised the fans with 135 pounds (60 kilos).
