The Young Solange
Her first public performance was at age 5 when she sang at a park. Four years after she started writing songs. Her writing styles were after the likes of Paul Verlaine, a French poet.
When Solange was 13, she made the decision to pursue music but her parents were not very supportive at first since they just had same issues with her elder sister; they wanted her to go to school and have a normal teen life. After a while, we guess her parents succumbed as we started seeing her perform occasionally with the Destiny’s Child group. She eventually signed with her father’s music label; Music World Entertainment.
Solange albums
When Knowles was just 16, she released her first studio album. The title of the album “Solo Star” was dropped by Kelly Rowland when she referred to Solange as a Solo Star.
The album involved The Neptunes, Timbaland and other top American producers and was released on January 21, 2003.
Its lead single was “Feelin’ You (2nd part)”. The 15-track album was primarily R&B even though she wanted more genres involved. Unfortunately, the album was not a big success but she was not as fazed as she had her mind set on music.
After the release of this album, she took a break from acting because she became pregnant by Daniel Smith, her high school sweetheart. While she was on the motherhood and wifely break, she wrote “Upgrade U” and “Get Me Bodied” for her sister that earned the ASCAP R&B and Hip Hop accolade in 2008.
Her second studio album, “Sol-Angel and the Hadley St. Dreams” was released on August 28, 2008. By this time she was more mature and more in control of what kind of music she produced so the album was more daring.
It’s lead single “I decided” became her breakthrough single and it reached the top of the Billboard chat. Coinciding with this album, she also released a series of mix tapes.
Solange recording label – Saint Records
Preparing for her next album, Solange worked with Australian rock band, Midnight Juggernauts. She was really stressed for this album and at some point started getting panic attacks. Before the release of the album, she launched her own recording label which she named Saint Records. Finally on November 11, 2013 Saint Heron, her record label’s first compilation was aired.
“A Seat at the Table” was her third studio album and she released it 30th September 2016. This album became her first number-one album in the US making her and Beyonce the first sisters to have a No. 1 album in the same year.
